I have a 14FF and dana 44 on the way, and wanted to know how much i should grind off the caliper to make 15" rims fit. I have read a few of the past posts, and the tech that steve fox did, and it sounds like the rim can just barley clear the caliper, is that right, so there is just enough clearance between the rim and caliper? How much is enough? Thanks.

Got Dirt?

Look at my tech article on the tech page. I included pics of the clearance. Basically you have to grind quite a bit. You'll take the rim and test fit, grind, then test fit it, then grind again. Keep on doing that until you can tighten the lugs all the way down and not have the rim rubbing against the backing plate or caliper. If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected]. I assume this is a 8 lug D44 you are referring to as the 6 lug will fit 15" wheels just fine w/o grinding.

When you are test fitting the wheels, paint the caliper & backing plate reinstall the wheel rotate the wheel . And see where the paint is rubbed off , and grind some more. Repete until their is no interferance. That is how I did mine . It saves alot of guessing where to grind. Hope this helps.

Notice how he says WHEEL. don't try to do this with a tire mounted on that wheel or you we regret it and feel it the next day.

Yeah it really sucks when there's a 36" TSL swamper mounted on the 'test rim'...

I damn near died after mounting that thing on my truck for the 387th time. At least there's 8 lug nuts to spin on and off though...
