I'm working on rebuilding a trailer and adding an extention. The sole reason for this work is to transport some 40' trusses. The trusses are roughly 8' wide at point. Right now the trailer has been lengthened to 26', is that enough to haul the 40' trusses?

I'd your are so inclined the build for this trailer is documented in the aptedly named build section. Here!

If I box the frame (trailer frame is an I-beam, not a C-channel) over a splice do I need to box both sides of the frame? Keep in mind the splice has been welded on both sides, a patch has been applied over the splice and finally the frame has been boxed over said splice. Hopefully the picture clears things up.

For trusses, that joint is overkill. For just about anything, that joint is good,
Cool the last thing I want is this thing coming apart during transport.

What about over all length? Is 26' trailer sufficent to move 40' trusses?

You have almost half of it hanging off the back. Bouncing down the road will break them. They do not support themselves on their side. If you can stand them up upside down, and not be over height, would be ok.

Onother option to keep the height down is build a support at the front of the trailer 6 feet high for that end of the truss to sit on. So they go down the road on the ridge and that support.

I'm not sure what the laws are where you're at, but here you legally can't have an overhang greater than 4'. Legal or not, I wouldn't pull something with that much overhang. Seems like a dip in the the road or any incline could turn into a bad day.

I have 32' of trailer and I wouldnt haul 40' of anything on it more than a short back road trip. 36' for a short trip. 38' to 40' to do it regularly.

After mocking up possibly the worlds ugliest truss, you can plainly see the trailer isn't gonna be long enough. So I'm busy adding another 10'
That will bring the overall length to 36', that's as long as I'm gonna make it.
