Just curious how much tube a typical cage would take? My design would fit snug under the hard top and allow full access to the rear cargo area. Front cab area will have a seat mounts also.

do you have any current scrap.

I use alot of little short pieces that some don't have and would have to cut off a full stick.

So without any kind of design or anything you should be able to get it done with 6 sticks.

That assumes no mistakes though.

Probably safer to assume 8 sticks, you will have extra left over but that will allow for mistakes.

I have done a cage for a blazer with 4 sticks before, but we would have needed another stick for little pieces I had kickin around, and we made quite a few compromises with that cage. It was built right though, it took a couple rollovers with out damage.

If you start with 6 there is a very reasonable possibility you could get it done without to much issue, but one little mistake can cost nearly a whole stick sometimes.

Also don't be afraid to mix it up, use square tube for seatmounts is nice sometimes, if the basic cage is 1.75 consider some of your bracing out of 1.5 or even 1.25 ( I think 1" looks too small).

Don't forget about the plate and gussets and tabs for mounting stuff. It all adds up pretty quick

my K5's cage was about 180' of 2".... about 20' of 1.75.. and 12' of 1.5....

somewhere in my novel I actually documented the amount of bends and fishmouths... ;)

i was about $6 a foot for 2" DOM delivered a couple yrs ago...` that's buying multiple full sticks too...

I would say 6-7 to have extra.

Where did you check with for steel. What size did you go with .120 or .095. That just seems cheap.

When I do mine and I already have some 1.75 .120 for bumpers and I bought it quite a while ago

I called Western steel off Astrozon and Hancock. The price went down when I told her I would be getting 5-6 20ft stick for sure. Glaser steel was close in price but Western is at least on this side of town

Wow, Western must have came down a bit on prices. Last time I looked Glaser was a lot cheaper. But this was about 4 months ago.:dunno:

Just throwing this out there since it could lower the cost a little. When you buy your tube, do you think you would do a group buy? I am hoping to knock out the cage work on my Blazer here soon. I would throw down for 7 or 8 sticks if it would bring the cost down some.

I'm good with that. How soon are you wanting to buy? I'm a month or so. Still have to get tags on my trailer

A month or so is good for me. I'm still trying to get the garage cleared out a bit to get the blazer in there.:doah:
