So last night me the wife and a buddy are headed to dinner and swing by to look at a house with a shop he's interested in, as were scoping it out, backing Up pulling forward multiple times all of a sudden there's a squeal coming from the left front wheel. Happens about 5-7 mph and goes away when the brakes are just barely touched. Sounds like the pad wear indicator or a rock stuck in the caliper, no big deal we go to dinner, today I run errands all morning and pull the wheel at 3:00 sure enough the wear tab is touching, there's a 1/4" of pad left so I bend it out. Easy fix.
So I decide to check the wheel bearings knowing that 4WParts in Denver "went through" the front end for the PO just before I bought it 40,000 miles ago.
DAMN GOOD THING I did. Outer race is toast, inner race had spun on the spindle, turns out to be what the actual noise was, left side lock nut wasn't even finger tight, right side was no where close to torque spec.
3 parts stores, 2 trips to the last one to exchange the outer races that were .020" OD too big and 7 hours later it's all back together.
We're headed up Hells Canyon with the camper this weekend, this could have been a disaster.
Time for bed!
Later.
