How often do you check steering gear bolt torque?

It's been about a year since I checked after having the frame patch and ORD brace installed. All bolts were loose. I've re-torqued all to 85ft/lbs. Seems like I'll need to make this a regular inspection before/after going offroad.

Any credibility to upgrading to GR9 bolts?

I'd consider swapping in new bolts. I had some issues with tranny crossmember bolts loosening up over and over again, so I finally replaced them with all new bolts, washers and nuts and problem was solved.

Grade 8's should be plenty fine.

I check mine after every 4-6 wheelin trips. After the first few checks a few years ago, they've stayed tight ever since.

Never checked mine. Can you tell me where they are? They sound important

I check them pretty regularly if I remember to. They will loosen up from time to time. Installing new grade 8 bolts is a good idea. When I installed my new bolts I installed bolts that were about 1/2 longer then stock. 3 of the bolts you can get a nut on the backside of the steering box. I installed metal locknuts to help keep them from loosening. It seems to help keep them in there longer.

I'm running new GR8 bolts that came with the ORD brace. I'll check them regularly and go with hightemp locktite next time.

I took off the visor and looked and couldn't find nothin there. I think the previous owner must have forgot to put that back on when he took it apart. I will have to ask him where it is.:p:
