I'm in central Ohio and want to get sliding windows for my '79 Blazer's rear windows. How rare/hard-to-find are these? Should I get the whole top or just the windows? Any pros/cons I should be aware of? How much should I expect to pay?

My experience with them was that they are not worth it.

The one top improvement I made was to lessen fumes and keep the rear window cleaner, I found a top that had the factory "spoiler" on it.

My side windows were a pain. Swapped them in, then swapped them back out.

Cons IMO:
too many parts. Replacing seals and what not would get expensive.

Pieces are hard if not impossible to replace when things like the wing windows loosen up, since GM used tiny steel screws in aluminum, which doesn't work well. :)

The latches are the same cheap pieces of junk used on the regular cab sliders...almost always broken.

Flow through ventilation is great if you can have the rear window down and the side windows open, which is what the spoiler helps with. (less exhaust in the back)

i've got a xtra one that i was thinking of cutting up in Spokane, WA off a 1984 K5 for $50

I would, but it would cost another K5 to have it shipped across the country to Ohio. :doah:

Sorry, bad typing... what i ment to say was that i picked up another one for $50, b/c i'm thinking of cutting it in half!

I think they are about $35 each at the local u-pull-it. Not too hard to find. May be difficult to find with everything in tact.

I like them for the benefit of the passengers in the rear seat. Anytime I have backseat riders they usually end up opening them.

The biggest ventilation aid I've found is the vent doors in the kick panel that comes on non-A/C trucks.

I recently sold a pair with 1 broken "vent" pane (redirector) for $125 + shipping across country. :D

I found I get the best ventilation when I do the following.
Open up the vent panes till they face forward. Don't do this much any more since I had a hornet neatly thrown in my crotch though...
Open up both windows. Very easy with my power bling bling....
Remove the can-back top which takes me about 45 seconds including rolling it up and throwing it on the floor... bliiiing!!!

Or better yet...

Although, rolling up the sides takes a while longer than 45 seconds....
But my hard top has sliders and I love them. Never seen one leak, ever... a few K5's have been whitnessed in my years too...
