I want to mount my spare tire inside my '90 Suburban. It's a 42" TSL on a Hummer beadlock and it weighs about 180lbs. I don't think mounting it straight to the bed floor will be strong enough unless I use a big plate underneath floor. I was thinking something about 6" square and 1/8" thick. I don't want to mount it to the roof because it's tall enough and I don't want to hang it off the rear because it's got enough rear overhang.

So what suggestions do you have?

Not real sure how the gas tank will interfere but what about putting some eye bolts in the floor and then running one or two ratchet straps across it. I know it sounds tacky but you could position the bolts as close to the tire as possible to avoid using too much space and then you'd have the ratchet straps on hand for potential trail repair type stuff.

I doubt you'd need to reinforce the floor with anything more than a large fender washer since the straps wouldn't need to be more than really snug.

That's basically what I did.........bolted an eyebolt through the floor on each side of the tire and ran a ratchet strap over it (13/38-16 TSL on a 16x10 steel rim). I've been on about 4 tough trail rides and it hasn't moved yet.

You have seen how I used to have mine. I had 6 eye bolts in the bed of the Blazer. 2 at the very rear, 2 in the middle and 2 in the front coming out of the seat mounting holes. The tie downs work very well. But you'd need more than just one. I had mine X'd over the top and it held it nicely.

You have also senmy latest mounting. This will also work in the back of the Burb. Just run a piece of flat plate on the bottom side and bolt it down that way. Like someone above mentioned, your tank may be in the way.

just break out eh welder and weld it to the floor.:D

I have 8 cargo tie downs from a late model suburban bolted to the floor in the back of mine. They, along with 3 ratchet straps hold my 285 spare, 2 LARGE ammo cans, toolbox, highlift and spare D60 shafts to the floor. The work great.

im looking for a fuel injected 350 or 454, turbo 400, np205, 15X10 or 15X12 steel beadlocks, and maybe a 14 bolt id like one but its not totally neccessary for my DD
