i would try it on the engine. If you decide to remove carb, when reinstalling don't over tighten the front 2 bolts. if you bend the bowl it's done.

If you remove the carb be Careful with the metal Vac line on the back for the booster. If it’s been there a while they like to twist the pipe.
Use a backup wrench on the carb fitting when you loosen the line.
