How the heck do you take apart the glove box lock

The two peices thread together like a bolt and nut. You should be able to just twist it apart.

You need a paper clip with one end straightened at least 1 1/2 inches. Then stick it in the hole in the front of the chrome knob and wiggle it around in the center till it goes in about 1 1/4 inch. Then the chrome knob should pull out. Then you have a threaded collar that unscrews from the outside of the latch body. The collar has an octagon shape, not a hex like an allen wrench. I found a piece of square steel that was .410 OD. that fit in the collar to tighted it up.
I found this out the other day cause mine was loose and couldn't get it to open without a big hassel, so I finally took it apart and took some pics, hope these help. The arrows point to the 2 spring loaded keepers that hold the chrome knob in the latch housing, that is what the paper clip is going to release so you can take it apart. You have to do it again to put it back together again.

GNERGY,
I was wondering why my latch assembly keeps falling apart. I knew I was missing something... these "keepers" you speak of. :doah:

My latch system was already broken when I bought the truck. So I just bought a new one assuming it would solve the problem. I don't have the keepers!!!!

What do these keepers look like??

I am not a paying member, so I can't see your pics you've posted.

If you guys will PM me your e mail address I could send them to you.

I can't seem to do that either.

One of these days, I'll bite the $25 bullet and buy a membership. Until then... I'll save this thread in my email and one day I'll email you about it again! :D

GNERGY, I can't view your photos either. Can you paste them into a posting rather then attach them. My lock is loose and I need to tighten it up and couldn't figure out how to get it apart either. Tnx

aww man thanks a ton I was baffled about how this came apart. I knew is screwed together but i couldent get it started.

Man, I've tried and tried but still can't get my lock assembly to come out. Is there some trick with the paperclip? I've tried it in different angle and don't feel it going in any additional amount. I have also tried latching and unlatching....still nothing.

Love any tips that can help me get this thing off! Thanks!

I finally found it in another thread.....thanks!

I was assuming the paperclip was used to "remove" the lock assembly.....rather, I just needed to push in on the bottom hole to release it. The paperclip is for the "re-install" of the lock assembly. Also, be sure to latch it "closed" to get the release pin to be exposed. Got it fixed!
