How the hell do you remove a rust belt steering arm

I popped one loose today on some knuckles I just bought. It took about five minutes. I clamped the steering arm in the vise where the draglink bolts and hit the top of the side of the steering arm with a hand sledge about five times and started to loosen up.

Hmm you must have one steady hand.
Without damaging the studs. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
Wow ya have me beat.
Damn I feel pretty good when I blow off a huck bolt and not damage the frame.
I must be doin something wrong???
Everytime I try to torch something out of a cavity it is generaly a loss. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

The trick is to only heat the cones. The washers are much softer than the studs so they heat faster. This also works for bolts broke off in an engine block (non aluminum block of course). Our backhoe is constantly breaking off engine mount bolts. Since the block is cast it is much harder than the bolts. Heat the bolts and they will blow right out leaving a nice hole. I chase the threads after each burn and rarely have any slag come out. A small tip is the key.
