Any tips on an easy way to change a water pump on a 454? I don't wanna pull the front end off or the radiator. I'm not the best mechanic, but I have access to all the tools I need and enjoy doing everything myself or with the help of my 4 and 5 year olds.

I'm too lazy to run out to the garage to look at my Chilton's ... which you should be doing, btw :shame:

Anyway, I seem to recall that the big PITA is taking the fan assembly off the clutch -- they're like 1/4" or smaller bolts and they're fairly long.

Once it's off, then the accessories come off pretty easy and you can get at the pump.

But again, that's by memory.

The only problem I'm having with Chilton's is that my engine is a 454 and '75 Jimmy's didn't come with those stock. I guess I could check on other years. Thanks for the tip.

the easiest way is to take what you need off piece by piece and put it down on the ground in the order it came off.if need be take photos if you have a digi cam.this is what ive always done.ive never had a problem gettin something back together.you dont have to take off the rad or front end.you start by taking off the fan shroud so you can see whats next to come off.then go from there.its a farely simple job and should only take you a couple of hours.

Must be something in the air. I have to change the W/P on my 2000 K3500 with the 454. Don't sweat it, it's a pretty easy straight forward job.

Ah yeah. Well, then you get a book for the pickups, which covers the BBC.

'Sides, for generalities the two are pretty much the same ... a BBC is just heavier :haha:

Anybody use a Haynes manual? I can't find my Chiltons and all I could find was a Haynes. They're definiteley not the same.

Haynes/Chiltons... as long as it tells you what you need. Waterpump replacement is pretty easy though. No special tools required.
