I am getting ready to repaint my blazer and i am taking the trim off the sides. I pulled the molding off door and quarter panel so far and have been using a razor blade, Goo-Gone, and sanding a bunch. Is there any easier way to get the left over tape adhesive off the truck? Please help with any suggestions, I have tried acetone, and it just moves the residue around and makes it worse.
Thanks

I guess I'm not understanding "tap residue". Do you mean trim adhesive?

yes my bad, when I pulled the trim off it didn't pull all of the adhesive with is and I am have trouble getting the rest off

Thanks for the link, i have been using a lot of goo gone and patiences

In the past I have used Acetone with great success.

I thought is was going to work great, but maybe i'm a idiot and was applying it wrong or something, I was just using a rag with the acetone poured on the rag and rubbing it. How did you do it?

Exactly as you did and it came right off. Maybe the Acetone you have is old or something and lost its "umph"?

I think it was a year or so old, but i did just by a new bottle, so I'll have to give it a try this week.

I also used the 3m wheel with good results. Had to go to a body shop supply to get mine though.

I've used MEK with reasonable success.

your a daring man... hope you use gloves... as a marine guy I use MEK all the time, it's gelcoat thinner... obviously you guys know I've been playing with all this stuff a LONG time.... lacquer thinner, acetone, etc all PALE in comparison on the nasty, kill ya meter compared to MEK and styrene... they freakin scare me, nasty, nasty chemicals.. :eek1:

while I'm here, i'll throw my .02 in...

as for chemicals..... mild cut on adhesives are the more petroleum based products, WD, mineral spirits, 3M trim adhesive remover, goo-gone, etc.... acetone, lacquer thinner and stuff like styrene will cut glue much, much quicker than the previous mentioned, but are also much more aggressive.... a test spot is advisable... or go with the petroleum based products, much safer certainly....

the wheels work very well too, depends on the glue, thickness, etc.... I remember when my dad brought one home from the 3M plant, before you could even buy em, back in the early 80's.... we used em a ton in the collision shop... pinstripes? whole car in about 5 minutes... :eek1:

when using chemicals, it helps a bunch to have a new bondo spreader to help "rub" it off... hehe, :haha: also change out the rag VERY frequently, otherwise your just smearing it around.......
