well, i have a cv shaft, but i still get some wicked vibes sometimes and i need to install shims in my rear axle...well, i took the advise of a dads buddy and measured the angle off the bottom rib of the 14bolt(running with the truck, front to back) is that 90degress off of what the pinion yoke is....i came up with being 3degrees up with the 14ff...so i got some 5 degree shims to install....but now that im thinking about it, what if he's wrong...i only wanna do this once....so is that a decent way to get the angle??? or do i need to pull the shaft and run a straight edge or something across the yoke??? thanks alot

You need to first put the angle finder on the driveshaft and record the angle. Now pull the shaft then put the angle finder on the differential yoke (vertically obviously). With a CV shaft you want the shaft pointed 2* down from perfectly inline with the driveshaft itself. The 2* down will compensate for the slight amount of axle wrap when under normal driving conditions. Now add the proper degree shim pointed in the correct position and you're done.
