if you get 1 ton axles you will have to buy new rims again as they are 6 lug on 1/2 ton and 8 on 1 ton.didnt know if you knew.

I no I will need new rims but I dont want to buy new tires when my old ones will most likely be good still

16" rims clear 1 ton stuff.
if the tires you like are available in 16" go that route.
tires are a wearing item so you will be replacing them, just time your 1ton upgrade to tire replacement time

stock axles on an 85 1/2 ton are 10bolts, is that your question? I missed where that was asked

I was asking how to tell what kind of axle it is by looking at it dana's and corprates

10bolt and dana 44 front axles are real similar everywhere except for the cast centre section.
pretty much have to see pics of the 2 to learn the difference but the 10 bolt cover is more rounded and the dana looks like most dana covers.
after seeing a few and paying attention you will be able to pick them off from a distance
