I want to mate a SM465 to a NP205, I'm not in the market for the 10 Spline SM465/NP205.

This is what I currently have:

TH350/NP205 (Figure 8 - 27 Spline)
TH400/NP205 (Figure 8 - 32 Spline)

I can pick up a SM465 for dirt cheap, I would most likely buy a new mainshaft and do an overhaul so it hoestly doesn't matter if it's 2WD or 4WD (10 or 32 Spline).

Now I'm curious about my options I want the strongest setup. I know that ORD offers a new short 32 spline mainshaft but in the description it says it is for use with a Ford 205 using a Chevy 32 spline input.

6 bolt 205's are hard to find and when you do find one people want A LOT of money for them so I would like to not go that route.

Can I use a SM465 with ORD's short 32 spline shaft and a figure 8 adapter that came from a 10 spline 465? I'm guessing that the 10 spline mainshaft and the ORD short 32 spline shaft are very comparable if not the same length. The adapter would mate my 205 to the 465 just fine.

My concern is the lengths/distances where all of the splines engage. I want maximum engagement.

So SM465, ORD short 32 spline mainshaft, adapter that was used with the 10 spline 205, figure 8 32 spline 205 and a 32 spline input (would I need the long output?).

To clarify, in your last paragraph I think you mean input not output.

There is a significant difference in length so you might be able to do it with the more "common" short 32 spline input.

I have an adapter thingy. But I English not was spoken above....

I just spoke with Chris about this at ORD yesterday. You can probably use the ord kit with a figure 8 to round adapter plate.

Yes, that's the ORD shaft, I put it in my Doubler.

There isn't a figure 8 adapter short enough to make our short 32 spline output shaft work, even with a long 32 spline input in the 205.

We do have this spacer, that uses the early (10 spline style) adapter with the factory 32 spline output shaft with a short 32 spline input in the 205:

Following this, I've got a 32 spline sm465 and want to put a doubler behind it. Good to get clarification before I buy the 32 spline short shaft. Was going to just bore out my 10 spline np205 and convert it to 32 spline. The figure 8 or 6 bolt np205s are getting really pricey now days.
