Having already searched, but not having found the boneheaded simple explanation that I seem to need...

How do you remove front brake hoses where they meet the frame on a '79? Does the hard line unscrew from the inside of the frame? Is there a clip I've heard talk of that holds the fittiing in the frame hole? How do you remove the clip (thus, presumably, allowing easier access to the line fitting itself...?) How is the best way to do this? I'm replacing the hoses since they are now my "redneck limiting straps" on the front end! :)

TIA for help

Yes the hardline unscrews from the rubber line and there is a clip that holds everything tight against the frame rail. I don't know if there is an actual tool for this close eyed clip so I've just used a screwdriver and tapped it out.

I've also seen some that actually have a big nut that hold the rubber hose to the frame.

^ This is what mine looks like...there's a big nut around the rubber line on the outside of the frame, but turning it slightly turns both the rubber line and the hard line on the back side, thereby not accomplishing anything. Maybe this is to hold the assembly still while the hardline is unscrewed inside the frame?

I've only messed with it a little (more this weekend) so I'll post pics if I can't figure it out.

In the meantime, I welcome any additional insight!

Thanks guys! This community ROCKS!

Hold that big nut looking thing which is actually hooked to the rubber line and undo the hardline.

The hard line on the frame side has the flare nut. Use a flare nut wrench on that side. The rubber line has the nut. It should be held in place by the bracket it goes into....unless you took the c-clip off already, in which case in will slide out a little and turn on its own.

So, break loose the flare nut on the hard line first, then tap off the c-clip, then pull out the rubber line.

Spray a liberal amount of liquid wrench on the fittings if they appear rusty at all. Use a flare nut wrench on the hard line as well as the hose end, otherwise you might break the hard line resulting in the PITA replacement of the hard line.
