This is my first time taking out an axle (the rear). I have this to the point I am trying to remove the c-clip but I can get it out for the life of me. Is there a special tool to do this? I am basically using two flat head screwdrivers and prying and lifting at the same time but it is not even budging. I am sure I am doing something wrong here but I am not sure what. The lock screw is out and also the pinion shaft. The locker is rotated so I have access to the c-clip but I just cant get it to come out. Can you clue me in as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks again. John

Once the cross shaft is out you can push the axle shaft inwards, then the 'C' clip should just about fall out.

Maybe that is my problem. I have pushed the axle in and the clip does not fall out. Does the thrust block have to come out also? The c clip stops when it hits the thrust block.

Any idea how to get the thrust block out? My manual did not state I had to take it out and it does not even show how to take it out. Thanks again for all the help and sorry for all the trouble. John

What would I use that for? I already have a magnetic pickup tool. I am not trying to pick up a c clip I am trying to get it removed. I now know I need to remove the thrust block from the locker but I dont know how to do that. Thanks again. John

There ya go.

Hopefully someone else can help you, I've only done the C-clip deal with Gov-Locks and open diff's.

It looks like you have enough room an the right side to slide the c-clip out... but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. with the cross shaft out the thrust block should slide out IRC, but it will only slide out one way so you may have to rotate the diff 180* Make sure the c-clips are seated fully and pull out on both shafts and the thrust block should drop out of the carrier, you may have to have some one rotate one of the shafts to help the block spit itself out

Well resurrected_jimmy I just walked back in and read your post. Good news is I got it out and then I see your post. Too funny. You were right though. I had to turn the locker 180* and it fell out the bottom where as before I was trying to pull it out. Thanks again guys for all your help. John
