Like the title says, I need to remove me defroster cable, so how do I remove the little retainer do-dads on the end of the post that the cable wraps around? Thanks.

You are talking about the multi-fingered round metal clips, right?
Best luck for me has been to use needle nose pliers and slowly turn them (like a screw) as I pull easily upwards. I don't know that there is any special way to remove them, they aren't really designed to be pulled off.
