New truck has a broken turn signal lever. How much of a PITA is it to get to this thing? Steering wheel puller and backwards from there, or is there any shortcuts?

Once you get the wheel off it is pretty easy to get to and replace. Really only one way to do it! It's a two piece part, I am assuming that the piece the lever is attached to is broken. If you are replacing the whole switch well that adds a bit more to the whole process. wires for the switch run down the column, fishing them in and out can be a bit of a pain.

Pull the wheel.

I *think* (been a long time since I've done one...it's missing on my truck) that the steering wheel lock is also outboard of the turn signal mechanism.

If the steering wheel lock still works (meaning it's still in there) you'll need a rental tool from one the chain stores. It screws onto the center bolt threads, then has a wingnut or some such to compress the lock plate enough to remove the ring that holds it in place. It's possible to do this without the special tool, but it's a royal PITA.

After that, it's all pretty self-explanatory... it's just one screw to remove the lever... a little more complicated if you have to fish for cruise control wiring.

checkers or napa in cruces will have the Lockspring tool you need for rent or for sale ( buy it its cheap and you WILL need it again) as well as a steering wheel puller get you a haynes manual while your there that will help you out to.......oh and they also should have the turn signal cam in the "Help " section

at least they did the last time I was in the checkers over there by Whataburger on Main
