how to run stock humvee rims on your rig (pics & info added)

i had a line on a rear d60 out of a 91 dually thought it might work guess not.
what about widening the 14 bolt know one has done it on here yet or not cost effeciant.
If you wanna go with a 14bff, get one from a van as it will be the widest available (70" WMS) then you can run spacers

There is also an Uber-wide 14FF that came under some 2wd 1 tons from 1987 to 1995? My dates might be off but it was the NBS trucks right after our body style. It is the same width as the D70HD

hmm interesting. I have never heard of that before

wish i would have seen this before i molested my H1s caUse i am looking at a DRW 70 w 4.56 for $150 to replace my 14BSF

I've never heard of that uber wide 2wd 14 bolt either. We need some more info on that. I'm running the van width 14 and stock H1s. I have 6" of lift and only 36" tires. My fear is when I get taller/wider tires that they may rub the inner fenders. Been trying to keep my eyes open for a REASONABLY priced set of 2" wide spacers but no luck yet.

It is talked about briefly in the 14bolt bible. It is uber rare and the basic 14FF with the DRW hubs but longer axle tubes to make it 72" wide at the WMS. If you swap the SRW hubs on to it, it will be as wide as a DRW 60 front. I have only seen 2 in trucks going down the road and have yet to locate one in the junkyard.

I am running 2" spacers on my SRW axles to run my H1s (well when I get tires I will but I have all the pieces):o. I might down the road swap to DRW axles when I go buggy.

any one ever tried a rear steer axle from a chevy denali truck i think 05 or 06 extra wide single wheel and factory rear steer they had littel flare fenders but not dually. and they where 2500 chevys and subs too i think they are 14 bolt or what ever the new chevys are disk factory.

The quadra steer axles are a Dana 60 with an electric steering servo for the rear wheels. The steering actuator is part of the dif cover. They have ball joints and only about 15-20 deg of steering angle. They also run CVs much like a IFS front.

They did come with disc from the factory and where available in 6 lug but unsure if they came in 8 lug or not.

They do come in 8-lug. I know the owner of a local 4x4 shop, he owns a mid 90's suburban, that has a SAS hp d60, and a quadrasteer rear 60. Its installed in the truck, but he still needs to setup the steering. He plans on hydro with a double ended ram. Some of the parts swap over to a dana 60 but most o fit is unique to the quadrasteer. The knuckles are beef!

I guess I should have said a Dana 60 center section.:doah: Yeah the knuckles are beef and I have heard it is possible to swap the shafts out and use a hydro ram to get more steering angle.

yea, he said he's going to run it till he breaks the stock shafts, then upgrade with a u-joint type axle

I heard the reason GM stopped using them is because they were weak even for the stock application. If they are weak with 31.5" tires I can't imagine they would do very well with bigger tires off road.

Iirc, that is why they were not available with the 8.1 or Doodoomax.

They stopped using them because they weren't selling. The quadrasteer option was several thousand dollars.

Bringing this thread back from the dead...

Boz, how's this set-up been treating you? Would you do it again or change anything? I'm debating running this.

I am still running it. I beat the hell out of it. H-1 wheels are not as cheap as they were in '03, but I still doubt you can find a cheaper double bead lock, especailly for a 16.5".

With all that said & assuming I am gonna run GM truck axles again I would do it the same. I have no complaints.

I'm bringing this thread back to life. After reading this and the D70 bible on Pirate4x4, I'm going the DRW route. I just got a bead on a 77 D70HD for $140. The guy is going to deliver it to my stepfather's house for me for $140. I would get it, but yeah....I'm out here in Iraq. I've also found a DRW D60 front for $600. Yeah that's right Mr. Crawl...I'm scoping out your axle.

That sounds like a good combo Mike...same gear set?

Don't know on the rear yet? I'm working this out from out here in Iraq. Whatever the rear is, I'll just match up the front to it. This will be a long time build since I have to buy a house when I get home and I'm out here for 3 months at a time. This thread is what really got me searching for the D70 HD though.
