i have had several people pm me or ask in another post how i am running stock humvee rims so i will do my best to explain.

Frt end: the frt is easy. i am running a d60 frt that i converted from single wheel to DRW. all i did was swap hubs. although other members on this board say u have to swap brake roters i did not.

rear axle: in the rear i took a dually D70 HD axle. we peeled the normal DRW hubs off of it & replaced them w/ SRW hubs off of a 14 bolt. the difference in the hubs is the SRW ones have the wheel mounting surfgace approx. 2" wider than the dually ones. so by swapping the hubs i widened the wms-wms by approx 4". this made a wide axle even wider. the hubs are a bolt on deal no mods were needed.

**u will have to run disc brakes in the rear if u swap hubs. u will also need the weld on style disc brake bracket because by swapping hubs u get a unique spacing between the hub & the mounting flange for the drum backing plate. as far as i know no one makes the bolt on style bracket that will work**

by doing this to my axles i made the rear a 1/2 inch wider than the frt DRW 60. if i remember correctly my axles are about 77" wide.

my truck is only 1" wider set up like this than it was when i was running SRW axles & 16.5x9.75 rims with 4.75" backspacing.

it has been awhile since i did this mod so my measurements on the hub offsets may be a little off, but i know it works.

i will post some pics tommorrow.

if i left anything ouut, or u got a question let me know. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

here are some measurements i know are true on my axles
1.SRW d60 wms-wms 69.5"
2.my d60 after changing to DRW hubs wms-wms 76.75"
3. my D70 after changing to srw hubs wms-wms 77.5"
4.srw 14 bolt hub wms to flange where axle bolts in 1.75"

So what I need to do, is swap in the daul rear wheel hubs and wallah!! right??? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

u need a dual rear wheel frt axle & a daul rear wheel rear axle w/ single rear wheel hubs & wahlah!

the only thing is the dual rear wheel rear can not be from a cab & chasis because they are real narrow like 63" or so.

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

I am very interested in more info on what you did to the rear as I am putting in a DRW D60 right now and have the 70 already in and don't really want a spacer. Pics would be great!!!!!

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

i did not take any when i did it & have sold the daully hubs i had from the 70. i will take the ties off my rig & take some pics tommorrow if i get a chance.

the thing is u need a rear axle that is over 70 inches wide. the hubs on that axle if they are original daully hubs should measure around 4" from the outer lip were the axle bolts in to the wheel mounting surface (wms). a SRW rear hub from a normal 14 bolt should have a measurement of around 2" from the lip were the axle bolts to it to the wms.

i will measure how wide my axles are tommorrow to give some definite numbers.

does any of this make any sence to yall?

just so u know for sure poohbair i did not have to run any spacers.

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

Good info and yes, the "how to" explanation is clear. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

How does it drive? Have you noticed any handling characteristics different from an SRW set up? I am in the process of putting together the same set up (but with DRW rear hubs) so I'm curious about what to expect.

Can't wait to see those pics! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

Sounds sweet!

I got the D70HD sitting around too waiting on my D60 DRW for the front.
I was planning on running hummer rims or custom dual beadlocks with the same offset anyway.
I like the idea of not having to use a spacer in the rear and wanted discs as well, this sounds like the best way to get it all!

Really looking forward to seeing those pics.

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

it does not really drive any differently to me. it seams wider than it use to but i think it is cause i was so worried about it being to wide before i got it together.

this is the cheapest way i came up w/ to run 1 tons double beadlocks & disc on the rear.

i got my weld on disc brake brackets from aa-mfg they were only $7 bucks each but had to be modified do to the fact they were made to fit a 3" axle & a D70HD has 4" tubes

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

the part # i ordered from them is 049-A. they are 6.77 each. i could not find them on their web site but the phone # is 1-800-473-1730

all other parts for this disc swap are the same as a standard 14 bolt

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

Yeah, I have been looking into brakets.
I have a local guy (shop) that is gonna finish setting up the rear axle for me this summer assuming I come up with the funds and he knows exactly what I want and will deliver! /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

just added pics & more #'s /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

glad it is useful to yall

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

boz42,
I appreciate you doing this. I didnt mean to hijack your other post but POOHBAIR is stuck between a rock and a hard place and this brings up another option for him.
Good job

Re: how to run stock humvee rims on your rig

it is no problem i like to help, makes me feel like i gave something back to the board.(man that sounds sappy)

if you got anymore ? or if something is not clear feel free to ask.

both axles in my rig would have come stock under a 4wd dually from the early to mid eighties. probably more than those years but those for sure.

Great pics and documentation! Thanks for doing this! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

that has to save a lot of weight on the rearend too, because my D70 w/ those drums is FRIGGIN' HEAVY!!!!!!!!!

i swear i think they wiegh 50 lbs each. they are the biggest i have ever seen on a pick-up. the brake hardware & the baking plate are not light either. i threw mine in the metal scrap bin at the shop.

What kind of gear/diffs are you running?
