Other than the obvious, how else can I tell what capacity my gas tank is. I was always under the impression it was 31gal. but now im not so sure.

My fuel gauge has always been off, if I fill it to the top, itll go 1/4 past the full mark, so when it gets down to 1/4 of a tank on the gauge im pretty much out of gas.

I ran out of gas today, I knew I was running it close but I guess I misjudged it pretty good. I was 2 miles from home. Anyways, I always carry 5gal on the tire carrier. I put that in and then put in 3 more 5 gal. cans of older gas I need to use up, this got my gauge a lil over the full mark. I basically put in a lil less than 20gal. There is no way Id be able to get another 11 gals in there. So this has me thinking ive only got a 25 gal. tank.

I read the owners manual and it says there was a special CODE for the 31 gal. tanks, Where would this code be on my truck. The only two stickers left are the tire pressure one on the driver door and the emissions sticker under the hood.

Ive always just put gas in when the truck got to 1/2 tank, ive never trusted the fuel gauge so never wanted to risk it, til today. lol

Any ideas other than just filling the tank?

Well, you know how much you put in.....so go fill it up at the gas station.

Any "calculation" you are doing off your fuel gauge sounds like it will be flawed.

Look at the rpo codes on the glove box. tank codes start with a N
My tank is a NF2=26gal. NK7 is 31 gal

you could also look at the tank itself. the 25 gallon, the bottom is basically flat, the 31 gallon the front 2/3 of the bottom are flat, and the back 1/3 of the bottom slants upwards (think helping departure angle).

No codes in the glove box, just a sticking saying not to use this truck for a slide in camper and it has the vin.

The gas tank is basically a box.

Ill probably just see what itll take to fill it up. If I get 11gal in it, than ive got 31, if it will take 5-6 than its a 26 gal.

unless my math is messed up my gas tank is 24 x 24 = 576 divide by 241 = 2.39

is the decimal suppose to be moved somewhere?

Also my tank looks like the one in the picture.

Sorry, got distracted and forgot the height...:whistle::whistle:
Try again with everything. :thumb:

Well, I measured best I can. I got;
24 d x 24 w x 10.5 h = 6048 div by 241 = 25.09.

So, im guessing with precise measuring id end up closer to 26gal. no where near 31gals I had thought.

I have no idea why I thought I had a 31 gal gas tank. oh well.

Thanks everyone.

I'm 99% sure that blazers all use the same gas tank skid plate. So if you see daylight between the tank and skid, you have the smaller 26 gallon. If the tank just about touches the skid then you have the 31 gal.
