How to tell if my CUCV has been converted to 12 volt?

Pretty dumb, but the electronics portion of mechanics are not myt strong suit.

I am asking as I noticed a pic of a CUCV and it had 2 alternators. I was pretty sure mine only had one.

I just bought it, so I have no idea of what has been "fixed". I do know it was manual glow plugs.

Anyway, I popped the hood, and yes, I only have 1 alternator. I have 2 batteries, and the bracket where the other alternator was, but only 1.

Many hanging wire all around, also, but it does run. Starting to work on fuel prime woes in a week or so, but this is bothering me while I am out of town.

One very quick way to tell is to look and see how the batteries are hooked up.

If the batteries are hooked up in parallel (positive + positive to the starter, negative + negative to ground) then you have a 12 volt electrical system. If your batteries are hooked up in series (first positive to starter, second positive to first battery's negative, and second battery's negative to ground) then you have a 24 volt system.

What he said.

If it's 24v you should also be seeing 24v to the "in" side of the glow plug resistor near the brake master cylinder. There's also an empty half fuse slot in the fuse box that should be a constant 24v.

what Russell said, if the batts are hooked in parallel its 12v if they are in series its 24v.

I play mechanic on the introweb cuz' I'm a rocket scientist in real life:D:haha:

I heard a rumor you were a talk show host.
