so i have a edelbrock 4 barrel on my 350 and it runs beautful.

here is my deal, when i take it on the trails it runs great too, trails consisting of a pretty much "steady incline" with countless ditches, rocks, ledges or whatever for MILES, point being (mainly uphill)

the problem only/always occurs when gettin home, (downhill)
i pretty much gotta ride the brake and gas with one foot so i dont STALL.

has anyone experienced problems with carb engines on the decline?
adjustments? tune?
i would like to rectify this b4 hittin the trails this spring.

Everyone has trouble on inclines and try searching

The fuel is spilling out of the vent tubes into the throttle. Not sure how to tell you to lengthen the vent but if you look at edelbroke truck carb you may see how. Lower your float level a little to see if that helps. It isn't a very good design for what your using it for.

Well, there are much better offroad carbs than anything Edelbrock makes.

The only real help to be had has been posted earlier, lower the float and extend the vents. Those don't help a ton though, the design of the carb is simply not setup for angles.

I would get a Q jet if you want to stay with a carb. That was my plan when I started putting my truck together, but kinda fell into the TBI stuff dirt cheap.

check your floats on it and get the spring loaded needle and seats. I ran one on my stepside with no troubles at all. The float level plays a big part in how edelbrocks perform. Also if your fuel pressure is over 7psi you will have troubles.

My qjet works pretty good but I am going full propane.

spring needle and seats helps a lot.then you dont get fuel slosh too bad over washboard roads.i never had a problem on hills unless it was more than 20 degrees.even then if the idle is set right it still stays running just trys to stumble a lil.what rpm is your idle set at.you can turn it up a lil if you have a manual tranny to help.i have mine set at 1000 rpm.with auto i think that would be too much and pull on the brakes pretty bad when trying to stop.wouldnt go over 7 to 800 rpm in gear if you have a auto.

thanks very informative
not sure what im idling at lately cuz ever since i replace my ignition module, my rpm gauge stopped working:crazy:
prolly forgot to hook a wire back up or somethin..

wow thats awesome THUNDER. thanx a million
thats pretty in depth and over my head, but i will take my time and go slow because it is something that hopefully will be worth it in the end:bow:
