How wide is an older S-10 body?

dont do it steve... your rig is just too dang nice like it is... why does everyone wanna chop their chevys to pieces??? didnt you buy k5's and jimmys cause you liked how they looked and the ease for drivetrain swapping??? just my .02 but you wont ever see my k5 with any mods done to the body outside of what is needed to run 40+ tires on 4-6 inches of lift.. i will always keep the chevy heritage and look cause thats what drew me to the truck to begin with /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Keep the UAV as k5.
Find an s-10, put it on a k30 frame, and go from there. It can be called the HOAAV (home owners association assault vehicle.)

I totally looked into it a while back before I fixed mine. The body mounts are very close from what we could eyeball but didnt have one we could actually measure. We did do a lot of measuring for a Toy/ Forerunner body and those are remarkably close. By that estimate, with the Toy body and my axles under it, I would have nearly 7" of tire stick out each side. My money is being saved for a S-10 4 dr Jimmy body. That would be the cats a$$. But I need the rear seat for the kids so that limits me otherwise Id have a Toy ext cab on it with a flat deck as we speak.

I was just kicking around ideas, I orig bought the K5 because I liked the room and I wanted a solid axle daily driver and it was great for 8 years that way, now it is not my daily driver and it will prolly look like tin foil in a few years. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
One of the reasons I am kicking the S-10 idea around is to keep the Chevy heritage, but who knows what I might do. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif
 
/forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif and /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif work great on the trail with a few modifications, but the limiting factor soon becomes the body as far as what trails you can run. Some people sacrfice the body, which is fine, but there are some trails that you physically can't fit a full size body in. I, among other people, want to run these trails, so you have to modify your rig to fit. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
 
That's kind of funny, when I measure my K5, it's right around 61-63" at the widest, but I don't recommend my narrowing technique! It's more of a compaction process than anything.....

Remember the GM's are highly ADAPTABLE, make it do what you want!

That doesn't make sence, I would have to find another drivetrain, doubler, lift, steering and start all over again, after I did that I would have no reason to even drive the UAV. It would be better to slap a S-10 body on a rig that is already setup and then find a nice 72 mall runner closer to stock, much cheaper also.

Holy cow, did you cut any of the cab floorboard to get that narrow? I will have to measure the UAV to see where 63" is at.
 
I liked the idea you had about a year ago...
Run a s10 and s10 frame w/ full width drivetrain, 350, doubler, and all that other stuff. I think you could even start w/ a 2wd and use the spring pockets for coil-overs and use some leaves in the rear. It would trim a fair ammount off the weight and wouldn't need a 6" body lift to fit.
 
Wow! Even my rig is 71", and I have no body panels. That must have been one more cutting and welding party!
