http://www.4lo.com has a pretty good rpm calculator.

The tires and gears cancel each other out - and then some. Slightly lower rpm than stock (4.10/31's) @ 65mph.

I have the same combo with 37" hum-v radials. My rpm at 70mph is 3000. This is real world, I just drove 6 hrs interstate last week. I would not think you would be off by a few hundred rpm.

You might send kickinasphalt383 a PM. I think he ran that combo.

i cruise on the freeway at 70 (right around 3000 like Marc said), and it will keep goin till around 85... but i don't stay there for too long! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

i am in the same boat. i have a 6.2/350/208. so i want to run 37s but i cant decide whether i want to run 4.11s or 4.56s. i dont mind haveing a top freeway speed of 65 mph. but i really dont want to be turning 3000 rpm on when at 65 mph. i have to commute to school 3 days a week so as much as i hate to say it my on-road preformance is important. so does anyone have any advice? has anyone done this setup before? thanks

Hey you have a diesel, you can use that torque down low.
I have 3.08's with 35" tires 70 at 2500RPM and I can crawl idling, with my 205.
I sometimes slow down to as much as 20MPH and still stay in 4th gear and it pulls no problem.

yeah, you have a 700r4 with 4 gears. i have a th350 with 3 gears. im on 33s right now on 3.08s and she cant handle it. its great once i get up to speed, i cant hit like 85 when its flat. but as soon as theres a slight incline she bogs down and cant handle it. also acceleraton off the line is HORRIBLE. so i am definetly going to need new gears when i get the 37s.

I have a 4 spead manual, not 700r4

I run 4.56 gears and a 700R4 on 35" tires. I've driven in Drive (w/o the OD) a few times and it's a bit buzzy at 65 mph. Not as bad as a stock M1008 but not condusive to alot of highway driving.

Now if I had 4.10s, I would have bolted in that 465/205 combo that I got sitting on the floor. The need to (almost) keep up with traffic has me saving for NV4500. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

o wow. whats your 4th gear ratio? cuz mine 3rd 1:1 but i would assume that your 4th is higher. i really would like to find someone with the same set up i want to do. acctually what is your 3rd gear ratio cuz if its 1:1 then perhaps you could tell me how it does in 3rd. i dont know. thanks.

I really don't understand you guys /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I have 3.08 gears, SM465 4 speed with a 1:1 4th gear, and 35" tires.
The only difference is I have a non GM engine, maybe that is the difference: It's Perkins as my profile says, it's Turbo 5.9l it tops at 2500 or around that at 70 MPH
It's not a slouch taking of either.
I wish I had an overdrive like everyone seems to think, it feels like it's screeming at 70, and the governor is set at that low 2500 RPM.
I was told by a friend from australia that worked on those engines that I can raise that to 2800 or even 3000 safely, but not to try and go higher because some people do it and then the engine starts accelerating and you can't stop a diesel once it does that untill it explodes.
Well back on track, I am happy with my setup but I would love to have the NV4500, or even the NV5600 for the overdrive /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

4th (OD) in a 700R4 is .70:1 3rd is still 1:1. I had to drive for a bit in 3rd when I bent my shifter linkage. 1:1 is alittle much for alot of highway service
If you play with the numbers gear calculator there's a good 900 RPM difference with a (working) OD at 65mph . 4.10 vs 4.56 lowers the RPMs by 400 revs, maybe enough to be able to converse with your passengers at speed /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Re: How will my 6.2 do with a 400/208 ,1 ton 4.56 gears and 36\" hummer tiers???

Imiceman44,

The 6.2 is governed at 3600rpm. With your 3.08s your max speed is around 70mph at your max 2500rpm. From a pratical stand point your are more limited to a freeway speed from your 3.08 than we are by 4.56s. Something allso to consider is that your engine probably makes much more power than a 6.2, but a much smaller rpm range. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
