If you jack the rear end up on the driver's side you can try to lift the tire up and down to feel if the wheel bearing is bad. If there is up and down movement the wheel bearing is bad. When doing this either push in or pull out on the tire, if you don't do this you may confuse the in and out play (which is normal) for a bad wheel bearing.

I think you are refering to the pinion bearing. A carier bearing is in the middle of a long driveshaft. Like, big four door trucks and one tons. The pinion bearing is on the output of your diff. More or less right behind where your u-joint bolts on.


You also have carrier bearings in the rear end. The ring gear bolts onto the carrier.

I just took it in to have someone do it becaused away from home i just dont have access the tools and garage that i did before and they said it was a pinion bearing that needed to be replaced, does that ring a bell and make sence?

Yep, bad pinion bearings would have that symptom.
