The SM465 only the beefiest tranny ever available in GM trucks. It is not an auto, it is a stick and is amazing. Do a search on SM465 swaps, there is alot of info out there on it.

Yeah but the thing has VERY long throws... great for crawling and towing but its not gonna be fast and I prefer an auto tranny offroad... unless your rock crawling i think autos are just plain better... no clutching on hills or shifting... same with mud... if your rig needs to shift let it shift. Sometimes that will save you from a rollover or getting stuck. Its all personal preference.

What are the specs on the motor? Compression, cam timing, heads, intake, exhaust? Did you copy someone else's build that was dyno'ed at 375-400 hp, or are you just guessing?
The motor was built from a well known guy that builds racing motors. He has all the tools and computerized . dyno and other test that measure hp flow etc.
My motor has 10.1
cam I dont know not stock and has a lope
dart iron eagle i think
timing was done by another mechanic who said my timing was off
intake-performor ( i was going to get the rpm but the jegs guy said that the 2101 would be better for me since i mainly tow. more low end power
4 b-main
full headers to true duel flow master
Dyno was going to cost me a extra 500. But I asked him what hp will this motor have he said 375-385 400fp. He has built motors w/ the same parts same machining and it produces 375-385. he said moters will not vary more then 15-20 hp. Maybe i should have got it dynoed but i trust this guy.

OK, first off if I was doing 10:1 compression and my cam had a lope I would definatelly go Performer RPM. You need to know cam specs to choose the right parts (such as heads, intake, carb). Also 10:1 comp is a bit high for iron heads. And the best way to set timing is to advance it till you get a little pinging then back it off a bit.

chassis dyno runs around here are only 75 bucks and thats for 3 pulls... engine dynos can get a little pricey.
