I picked this up for the k10 and figured I'd keep track of my adventures getting it under the truck and everything hooked up in this thread.
It'll be a while because I just had surgery but when the time comes I'll continue to post pics and info in here for other people that are looking at doing this.

It's a '79 Ford High Pinion 60 with new 35 spline outers that haven't even been unwrapped yet.
The plan is 5.38's and an ARB to get this put back together and ready to go under the truck. I need to talk to ORD about steering for it as well.

Unless something changes I'm going to run a 241 out of an IFS era Chevy to go driver's drop behind my 700r then the next phase will involve a doubler of some kind.

Anywhoo for now here's some pics.

Interesting. Is that the original tie rod?

Should be looks just like mine did.

Your going to have to shave/ cut the housing to put in the fourth U bolt, but then you get to be in the cool guy club with four U bolts on your 60 .

My original on the Blazer's HP60 had an offset bent into the tie rod to steer it around the cover. I think it was there on the HP60 that is headed for the crew cab as well.

Did the 4 ubolt routine as well.

I had to clock the drivers drop tcase down in the crew cab to clear the floor boards. The IFS stuff is really high up in there. Of course its all on a custom mounting behind the cadillac so it may be higher than normal anyway.

Damn. I need that HP60 for my Highboy. Sell the outers and the rest of the chunk to me.

Look on pirate, there are 78/79 hp60's on there fairly regularly. This one is mine though. :D

You guys know anything about offset kingpin bushings? These are offset to one side and indexed by a piece of keystock. Are they worth anything to the right buyer or should I just trash them when I put regular bushings in?

I would assume those are aftermarket to adjust camber. I could be totally wrong though:dunno:

Got the steering all ordered this morning. I'll post pics as parts and things show up.

Talk about awesome service, I ordered this stuff at lunch Thursday and it showed up Friday. If you need some steering (or anything really) give WFO a chance to quote you!

Dog approved...

Cover from Ruffstuff showed up today. Looks great and seems to be one of the best values on the market especially when combined with his free shipping sale. (Sorry Kert, I haven't left you... I need a bunch of stuff I'll order from you too) :)

I still need to order some Warn 35 spline hubs and get some new kingpin bushings then it'll just be a matter of time. I'm on the tail end of recovering from surgery (haven't been able to put weight on my right ankle since Oct 27th!) so once I can walk/drive I'll hook up with WFO up north and get the gears setup.

On a related note I'm talking with a guy on Pirate who has a 241/ford 205 doubler so if we can work something out I'll skip the 241 phase for the sake of getting over on the driver's side and go straight to a doubler. We'll see.

The HP's had a "bent" tierod to clear the diff cover. Every one that I've had or seen had one like that.

I believe it, this isn't the factory tie-rod. I turned the kunckles the other day and the tie-rod bashes into the cover. The guy I bought the housing from had it under a dodge so who knows what he swapped out.
Doesn't matter much to me anyways, all the steering will be new.

Made a 450 mile drive today down to Los Angeles and back to pick up this little gem. It's a 241/205 doubler, all rebuilt, all finished. The 205 is twin sticked too.
Shifts smooth and it came with a new set of advanced adapters cable shifters. I need to get them all setup but it was a nice addition to the deal.

1:1, 1.96:1, 2.72:1 and 5.33:1 should make the K10 a little more enjoyable.

Oh, forgot to mention this 241 had a stick in front of it so it's 32 spline. I picked up a 27 spline input from 1-tonmudder that he's shipping out so I'll pop that in place and it'll be ready to bolt up behind my 700r4.
