HT383vsZZ4 custom build*edit one more for the mix*

Re: HT383vsZZ4 custom build

well they have. this uses a standard 350 bore, but it is a 3.80 stroke. So they ponied the big bucks, which is why the even the 383 shortblock is a wallet killer

Re: HT383vsZZ4 custom build

As WrathORC said, I'd never pay anyone to do something I can do and especially if I enjoy so much as building my own engine.

If you want a SBC, a 383 is the answer. Build it yourself, find a $200 core, spend about $400 on the shop and a 383 kit from speedomotive for about $600. You can then get a nice 4x4 cam a set of new World heads and be done with it. You have plenty of money left for an Edelbrock EFI.

On the other hand, I have a big block and I wont go back to SBC. If you have the chance to get that big block, you can spend about the same amount of money and get tons of more torque than a SBC ever will. Whatever you do to a SBC you can do it to a BBC and get way more power from it for about the same price. And Edelbrock also carries an EFI kit for BBCs.

But whatever you do, take your time to make the right decisions and do whatever makes YOU happy.

Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: HT383vsZZ4 custom build

the new ht 383 has a cool 3.80" stroke crank which will give you 388 in a .030 over 350 or 394 w/ .060 over /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif by the way the zz4 roller cam is a good super-torquey off road cam (pulls to 5500 w/ my vortes heads too!)

Re: HT383vsZZ4 custom build

I still think you need to look at the new ZZ383 that I posted earlier. It seems to be the engine you are looking for. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

I dont want to add to your dilema but there are other motors available besides what GM sells. You might look around on the web for others, many have warranties and are competetively priced. Speed-O-Motive has 450HP SBC complete for $3024 in Car Craft. They have several other motors and I think FREE shipping.
Also, unless you get a complete motor with accesory brackets and all the other crap I'd avoid the big block swap. You can build a SBC to make good HP/TQ equal to a mild BBC and the SBC will weigh considerably less. A BBC looks cool but might not be worth the weight and cost unless you go all out.
Good luck whatever you decide!!!
