I got four GMC hub caps that I want to use on my truck.

But I don't got front 4x4 ones.

Can anyone tell me what size of a hole to cut in two of them?
They are going on a eight lug 10 bolt.

Just a bit bigger than the axle...:D

You could take the hub off and use it as a guide, its only 6 allen bolts..just center it on the hub cap, draw a circle around it with a marker and cut close to the outside edge of the line...a hole saw would probably be the best thing to use..or maybe you can find something else the right size, like a cap off a spray paint can or tin can to use as a guide instead..

If you have a set of calipers just use em to measure the hub...then get a holesaw 1/4"-1/2" bigger.

My 1/2 ton 10 bolt (same size hubs) has a 3 1/2" hole in the rally center cap FWIW.

Yeah I'l just find centre, the hole saw I got is to small but I can make it bigger with a die grinder.

Why didn't I think of looking at my rally caps for the measurement! :doah:
Thanks Rene. :thumb:

I would be a bit leary of using a metal hole saw....it might tend to bite into the sheetmetal hubcap and twist the metal....do the Hutterites have anything?

If the center area is pretty flat, I'd consider screwing it down to a piece of wood upside down and then hole sawing it. Three screws inside the 3 1/2" area would hold it I think.

great idea, he could use that picnic table in the garage right?

Speed holes in the picnic table...something to drop empty neers into. :haha:

bingo, 5gal bucket underneat, conveniently attached to the underside...a drop in the bucket!

Two hubcaps would be two holes though. Might have to set-up a self reloading neer launcher under the table. Slap the right spot on the table and a neer pops up... :haha:

Hell, the dropping of an empty neer through one hole should trigger the launch of the new neer.

Get busy Dean. I expect to see the first working prototype of this idea at the Alberta drunk fest. :pimp:

I like neers.......and I like this idear on the neer launcher/reloader :whistle::thumb::haha:

As far as the hubcaps, just saw a square hole. After many neers all will look round :thumb:

auto neer reloader...diggin where this is going!!!:thumb:Cheers!

A co-worker of mine used a piece of pipe the right size and a hammer to make the center holes larger on some hub caps ,to fit over a larger hub --he stood the pipe up on the floor, laid the hub cap over it,eyeballed the "center" and used the ball pein end of the hammer to cut the hub cap, much like you use one to make a gasket out of a sheet of gasket material...it worked pretty well, folded the metal inward and made a lip, with no sharp edges sticking out..

I used a similar method Rene described to use a hole saw to cut larger center holes in a pair of rims..I bolted 3/4" plywood to the lug holes to give the pilot drill on the hole saw something to "center" on...worked slick, but I did toast my old Black & Decker drill in the process!..had to finish them in the drill press, which required taking the tires back off the rims..

Before you cut, make sure they are the right caps. A 1/2 ton cap is smaller than a 3/4 or 1 ton cap.

Could put then on a lathe. :dunno:

You guys are Funny! :haha:

Just measured the hole in my 77 3/4 ton. 3 and 11/16 inches.

Thanks!

I like the lip idea!

I got the big caps...I have a mint set of 1/2 ton caps for a 4x4 as well but they are at my uncles place 12 hours away. And like you said they wont fit anyway.

Cut them out with tin snips and cleaned up the hole with a die grinder and a flap wheel.

I`ll get to painting the wheels one day. :doah:

Never seen those hubs before...goggled them. They are made in Brazil and sold by ARB. Supposed to be good hubs. They turn nice and smooth.
