Ok so I got my 3/4 ton axles. The guy said they came out an 82. The front is a corp. 10 bolt, so I know they are 77 or newer. I always thought the 14bff had a longer hub that protrudes out from the WSM. Well this one I bought has a shorter one like our 95, but the drums are pressed on. Is this normal for the newer ones? Or is this an odd one? The WSM to WSM is 67 1/2 so I know it's a standard truck length.

I already searched and never found anything on hub length

It doesn't bother me. I was just curious. I didn't want to stick money into it and find out it's not worth it for some reason. Maybe scott will chime in

Looks normal to me. Check out the bible on pirate. There are hub comparison pictures.

I know I am used to the older ones that stuck out far. I believe about 4". I just didn't know the 80's versions were shorter. As long as it normal. Thanks Kert. Looking forward to my rear disc brackets to come in!

That's normal for the SRW, about 2" from WMS (wheel mounting surface) to the edge of the hub.

Oddly, the dually hubs are the longer ones, about 4":

So, as mentioned, yours are normal for an SRW axle -- doesn't matter as to year, just dually or not.

thought they were longer :o

Yup, just normal hub, checked 4 or 5 of the trucks in the yard and they were that way.

Ok, another question. I got the dif cover off and got everything apart. Come to find out (after cutting the backing plates off because of rust) this thing has been sitting outside for a long time. So there is some rust on the carrier bearings. I already planned on hub bearings and got them done.

When you replace the carrier bearings and the pinion bearings. Do I have to completely setup the carrier checking backlash, or do I just take the measurements and disassemble. Replace bearings and then reassemble?

I have never had a reason to set up a dif. so I guess there's a first for everything. Thanks guys!
