A Youtube follower of mine in France has a K5, I think it's a CUCV. Anyways, he's trying to remove the from axle shaft, and the nut is different from what I'm familiar with from my 10 bolts and Dana 44's. Here's a pix he sent me, and some diagrams

That is strange. Only thing I could think is whoever put that nut on (being in France) perhaps grabbed it off of some obscure vehicle that just happened to have the same diameter and thread pitch. Only thing I could think of (if the nut is on properly tight) is to fab a socket for it, even if its not perfect just to get it off, and then order a normal set of axle nuts. Or alter the socket he purchased.

I highly doubt that nut is stock, never worked on a CUCV but even HMMWVs don't have wierd parts needing special tools, and since both vehicles are from the same era, and share a lot of parts, there's no reason for me to think otherwise.

I have seen one of these before on a 10 bolt.
The arrow points to where there is normally a screw to lock it in place.
And the tool to get this nut is the same as the 4 prong that we know but 6 prong.
Like the 14bff and D60 tool but smaller.
When I saw it at Kragen a few years ago I was wondering what it was for.

Now I know of 5 different spindle nut configurations.

if need be i am sure someone here has a spare set of wheel bearing nuts with lock washers that we could send the guy in the mail to help him out.

i know i have some parts in canada / p.r. / 1 of those ex russin countrys. we got to keep them rollin. :thumb:
