My front hubs seem to be com /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gifing out of 4 wheel drive mode when I back up, and when I go forward they kick back in. I have them in 4 high. Any Ideas?

Auto hubs

as far as I know, auto hubs only lock going forward

if you want 4x4 in reverse, you should convert toi manual hubs

Auto hubs should stay locked (forward or reverse) when they have power going to them (ie, when the transfer case is in 4wd). They should only unlock when you go in reverse with the transfer case in 2wd.

It's not uncommon for auto hubs to go bad...sounds like yours are at the end of their life. Go out and buy some manual hubs for $60 and you'll be golden. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Which are better, auto or manual? I'm not a hard offroad driver. Can the oem one be rebuilt?

the only good thing about the auto hubs is they make a cool paper weight. don't think you can rebuild them, you can replace them but it will cost you more for the auto than the manual. spend 80 and get a set of premium warn hubs and you will never have a problem with them.

You don't wan't auto hubs, trust me! /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif I have ditched 2 different pair from axle swaps I have done and I have concluded that they are pieces of sh!t. They make a ratcheting sound going down the road and don't stay locked when you need them most.

With manual hubs your either in 4wd or 2wd. No question about if if you are getting power to the front wheels when in 4wd with the manuals. Also you have the advantage of 2wd low.(open hubs, 4wd low). I use this a lot for pulling on hard ground. Don't give me that "having to get out all the time" crap, it's not that bad and kind of fun IMHO. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Locking hubs are the beer of automotive. Real men love it, ohters won't go near it. I have an auto hub of sort. If I need 4WD I AUTO-matically get out of my truck, lean down, grab the dial and lock them in.

Yeah, you need some manual hubs. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Voice activated hubs are the best.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Ya just have to wait for the kids to get back in... /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
