my auto hubs have 5 bolts, and the manual replacements have 6...what does that spell?

No problem. The bolts screw into the inner part of the hub, which you are also changing when you install the new hubs. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

not even pull really hard...its an easy, straightforward swap..

ok so i dont get how it stays inside...if the end part screws onto the other end...what does that connect to?

There's a snapring on the axleshaft. Take that off and the innards slide right out. (On manual hubs, there's also a large external ring that fits in a groove on the inside of the hub...I don't recall if the auto's have that, but it can be a b!tch to get out sometimes.)

There will be a small snap ring on the end of the shaft that you remove first. After that, you'll see two little things sticking out that are attached to the inner snap ring. Squeeze them together with pliers and use one of the screws to remove them. Pitch those auto hubs, pop the manual in and install snap rings, install outer hub with dial, and you're done. Whole job an be done in 30 minutes or less if you're experienced, double that if you're not totally sure what is going on...but it'll only take a few minutes to figure out. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Hubs should have instructions with them....they worked for me. I did mine for the first time and it took about prolly 45 min's. It's easy!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Putting them back on can be trying if the axle gets pushed back towards the pumpkin. If the snap ring won't go back on the axle just reach around the tire and push the axle u-joint towards the hub. The is like 1/16" of play in the axle. I jammed a large screwdriver in the knuckle to hold the axle outboard while I put on the snapring. If you do it this way, remember to pull the screwdriver out before you take your test drive. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
