hub removal

im a little confused on this one..got 90k5 with manual hubs, im trying to remove the hub to change studs and pack bearings, from what've been reading there should be an outer 4 prong spindle nut followed by a washer then an inner nut...i was able to rmv the outer nut using a 4 prong socket, bt there is no washer instead it looks to be another nut with 4 prongs/tabs(nt like the outer)...any1 ran into this before?...sorry no camera available
