Do D60, D70HD, and 14bff axles all use the same 6 point hub socket????

anyone know part numbers for this biznatch? there was one at advance auto parts, but it was only listed to work on GM 1 ton axles from 197X-1981....... so i didnt buy it. Im hitting up the parts yard tomorrow to get some SRW hubs and possibly brake parts for the D70HD in the garage, and wanna make sure i have the right tool.

In a pinch, ive also heard a hammer and screwdriver will get the job done, but i like having the right tool for the right job, and if said tool also works on the two axles im actually putting in the truck, even better.

i use one for dana 60 first style and just took a file and rounded the teeth a bit. still works for dana 60 also. 1 socket for both.

im confused. you have a D60 hub socket that you rounded the teeth on and still works for the D60.......?

ya . rounded the edges just a little bit. dont need a tone of round over.

hardly ever need the older 6 slot dana 60 socket tho. my stuff is all 4 slot. so i have both.

mmmkay, so the newer stuff is 4 prong?

im just going on what i saw at the store, the 1/2-3/4 ton stuff was 4 prong, and the 3/4-1 ton stuff was 6 prong..... but i guess i shouldnt trust parts store parts applications for tools ;)

to the internet!!

dana 60 2 styles.

older first few years = 6 prong or tabs.

newer style = 4 prong or tabs not the same as dana 44 or corp 10 bolt.

mmmmkay. so ill use the good ol hammer and chisel for getting the hubs off the junkyard axle, and i guess ill have to pull the locking hubs and axle out of the D60 and D70 axles to see if i got 4 or 6 prong locknuts. good to know. thanks brother.

good rule i have seen is 81-up basicly dana 60 went 4 prong

and all rears will be 6 prong.

lots of guys convert the axles to match so 1 socket.

same spindle thread size on dana 60 and rear dana's and 14ff .

so save all the parts from the yard you can. you could convert cheep to 1 socket size. :D

man..... between the tools im gonna need, and the parts ill be hauling out....... i gotta buy a wheel barrow to take with me to the yard lol.
