About 6 months ago after my restoration , my front left hub and bearings went with u joints in the differential. He charged me $1000 for everything which I thought was kinda high. I know it's a lot of work involved but $1000 parts and labor?Does anybody have any experience with that kinda problem that might know more or less what's involved. Reason I'm asking now is because I wanna get some upgrades done to my truck and I don't know if I should take it back to that shop again.

no u-joints in the differential.....

Do you have a copy of the invoice, it would be easier to tell what the shop did and provide an opinion.

I sure do. I will go through my receipts and itemize it. I know he put in a hub in left side, bearings, and universals in the wheels/axle. I have to see what else. Thx for help

Itemized list would certainly help. I know on mine when I replaced the spindle, finding a good used one was tough. Most had evidence of excess bearing heat just like I took off. A Spicer replacement runs $175 on ebay, so one piece could be 20% of the way to your total.

$1000 should buy you a pile of usable D44/10 bolt front ends though.

Well depends on what he had to do.

Assuming he did new inner and outer wheel bearings, races, and seals on both sides. Both axle shaft bearings and seals. Both axle shaft u-joints. Replace locking hubs. Changed diff oil and inspected diff. Aligned as necessary.
And assuming he used quality stuff, like Timken bearings and Spicer u-joints. I could see a $1000.00 bill...... maybe. $500 in top quality parts and about the same in labor.

I agree with what Chris said about parts being in the $500 range as I've done a complete front with new parts and the bill was around over $500. I can see the labor fee being the same as the parts fee so you may have paid market or competitive cost. All I can say is LEARN HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF. Rebuilding these front axles is fun and easy. That means $500 back in your wallet. I have a 3/4 ton 10 bolt front I'm waiting for the right time to tear it apart and rebuild it, just for fun.

Thanks you all very much. I feel a bit better. Good to know that there ez to work with. If I would have known that it was gonna cost that much I probably would have purchased 2 373s on eBay . But now since I've been on this forum I have a lot more knowledge and know how. And I thank all of u again for the input..
