Hubs for trail spares?

I've read on here before about people 'breaking hubs' on the trail and how they had a spare with them so they could just swap it.
Are you talking about the locking/freewheeling hub assemblies or the disc carrying hub?
I just want to know as I'm slowly collecting 'trail spares'

You're on the right track. They are talking about the locking hubs for the axle usually. :)
 
I carry my old solid gears from when I used to be full time 4wd, slide right in just in case.
