When I went to Moab in May 2012 I camped at the Moab Rim RV park. Inside the office they had a huge map of Moab and the surrounding area. I took pics. It was so huge that I had to take pictures in sections. It would take 2 people to hold up this map... They said I could get one at the visitors center. When I went there, they did not have that Huge map. Thought I would share... Did not know where to put this thread...

... you can get it - comes in two pieces or so, IIRC, North & South... with a nearly complete trail inventory

The maps you're talking about are the Topographic maps North and South. And there is also 3 others that show East, West and a wide scale center. Super cool! I bought the East, West and Center maps because they had more detail then the North and South ones. The one on the wall at the Rv park was out of stock. I think the topographic maps are better then that el hugo map at the RV park though... Expensive those topos are...

Can you order those online? I'd like a set before I actually headed out there. It's better for route planning.

Come to think about it... I think the Visitor Center prices are a lot more costly price vs on-line purchase. I know, I know. You can thank me later:D

I have most of them somewhere.... I've recently started to rely on my laptop w/ GPS; overlay the trail on the USGS topo maps, and center the map on the actual position of the vehicle. Works great.. then again, there's something to be said about paper maps... and they require neither power nor an electronic device to work...

I usually use my google maps on the Iphone4. But it six cuz in a lot of places I don't get service. There's a few gps units out there that got me eye, but not good enough to spend the money. I would like see what the professional desert racers use. Hmm.

I have some GPS'd maps I track logged if anyone wants them.
