Hummer H2 Beadlocks

Kert,

I had asked you about this a while back. Take a look at this thread on PBB: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224777&page=1&pp=25

I really like Wolf's design, but I am sure that it could be modified. How do you know the grade of aluminum the wheels are made of? If you are really interested, I am willing to send you an H2 wheel to take a look at. Just let me know. I actually have as wheel here that is bent in a couple of places around the bead and I can't sell it anyway, but will be perfect for a beadlock.

yep, we need to talk again. I have a pretty good backlog of items to catch up on once everything is back to normal but after that I should be able to try some stuff with aluminum and see how time consuming its gona be. I Have and estimated retail but I'd really like to play around with it more before I say anything. It would also help if all you guys could get together on a design and do a group order type deal.

I would really like to do this and use some of kert's rim strengtheners!!!!

i'd run rim strengtheners if I were going to run those internals. However I'd rather get real locks not those. Just my thing I don't know. I like that design on Pirate.

One thing about these, do most places turn the wheels down for the beadlock rings? I ask cause Hummer rims are 17x10 and I was planning on 17x8s with Kert's locks. With my 13.50 IROKs that seems a bit wide, especially if I add a beadlock ring on the oustide of it. I really may be better off with a steel wheel setup. Would have slightly less backspacing(4.5" vs the 5 5/8" on the H2s).

From what I have heard, Champion cuts the outer lip off and welds on the beadlock lip.... Not sur ehow OMF and TR do it. Those are companies that all use off the shelf wheels like AR Bajas...

I have but one concern about those internal tube type beadlocks.

What do you do when you puncture one with whatever debris you find on the trail, road or whatever? When your aired down which is what they are for there isn't much space between the carcass and the internal beadlock. So with that in mind I could see finding something long enough to go through the tire and the internal beadlock as well.

Not to uncommon to have to use a tire plug to patch up a tire but I'm betting thats a little harder to do on that green thing in there. Just something I wanted to "Point" out.

We can save a bit more space by dropping down inside the lip. I offer them either way now so its up to each individual and how they prefer to weld them on. I haven't actually sat down with and H2 wheel yet so its hard to say. Maybe I can sweet talk the Hummer dealer out of a loaner for a short time... Ya right!!!

go take one for a test drive and send it back without a spare. ;). I did not get the H2 rims I was planning on. $220 for the steel ones and the ease of knowing how cheap and easy it already is to add locks to them was the deciding factor.

...that and when I laid down last night I didn't feel like getting up to bid on them.

yeah thats a good point, i would much reather have external locks.

i got to thinking it must be tricker to mount dismount the tires with that thing in there.
