Anybody own one? Or worked on them?

I like the way they looked. Kinda like a beefed up grand cherokee.

My only concern would be getting it worked on now that they no longer exist.

Any Reliabilty issues? Pro's con's compared to a 4 door wrangler?

Well my BIL just bought one a week ago, so I can only report after some time has passed.:dunno:
I do know that it's essentially a Trailblazer with a different skin, and supposedly improved traction.:dunno:

its pretty much a rebadged chevy trailblazer. only with less visability. a jeep jk 4 door will run circles around an h3. the H2 was based on a beefed up tahoe platform and was pretty decent at offroading. given the choice now i would get one of the 4 door wranglers any day over a hummer they are more capable, get better mileage, and you dont look like as much of a douche.

A Trailblazer with better clearance, bigger tires, factory lockers at least in the rear, a better suspension, different frame, taller ride height, uhmmmmm...what was that about them being a Trailblazer?

Oh, they have the same engine options, transmissions, rear axle, and front diff.

The late H3 Alpha's with front and rear lockers, 5.3L V8's, and all the other goodies are pretty sweet.

The visibility does suck though.

Stock regular non-offroad H3 vs a new Wrangler with the 3.6L V6 and I'd go with the Wrangler. The 3.8L Wrangler 2007-2011 I'd run away from...doooooooogs.

My BIL got the Alpha, but I still don't like them.

It's not a Trailblazer, it is a Colorado. I think they only came with the I5 or the 5.3L.

Underpowered with the I5, adequate with the 5.3L.

Just to clarify, the H3 is on the Colorado/Canyon platform, not the Trailblazer (ha, Blaze beat me to it). The Trailblazer, for all intent and purpose, is not much more than a run of the mill station wagon. The Colorado/H3 is a bit more "truck" with the rear leaf springs and better framework.

In GMs great wisdom, I'm sure most of the parts are shared among the Colo/Canyon/H3. That would make dealer service and parts availability a no brainer.

The H3 Alpha V8 had locking front and rear diffs along with the front diff housing being made of iron instead of aluminum.

I like the H3s appearance and the factory V8 in the Alpha, but as much as I like them, I'd buy a JK 4 door Rubi first.

You wanting to get rid of the duramax??

Possibly. Tired of a high payment on something that I rarely tow with anymore since I'm no longer at my old job and the up keep on it is starting to take a toll

I'm actually considering selling the truck and Parting out the blazer. Have a super low payment on the hummer or jeep and put some money into a few mods for it and having a DD that's comfortable but also can go up in the mountains for some light trail work.

Just ideas. Still not sure of what I want to do.

If you are planning to mod it slightly, then the JK wins every time. Somewhat underpowered but they can still maintain hwy speeds for the most part.

Stock for stock the H3 would win for me. More comfy, less ugly than a JK ( personal preference of course)

Not sure what I would do with an H3 but a JK would get an OME lift 35s and a regear, then go have fun with it. They look awesome with that setup. Plus that lift is a way easy install

You will miss the D-max if you sell it. I miss mine, but not the payments. Did the H3 have any trans issues like the Trailblazer?

The little bit of research I have done on the H3 is they get crappy fuel milage. The gear spread is huge since it's a 4 speed, so it really needs a 5-6 speed to be decent.

The brake pedal is touchy, but if based off the Colorado, I could see why they all seem to be really touchy.

The steering/ suspension on road is iffy, low windows so no visibility. And the interior has the typical plastic crap that all GM vehicles have.

None of that bothered me except the milage. Reports are it gets mid to low teens and thats way worse then my duramax.

Even though I would drop a lot in payment I think I would be pissed every time I fill up.

a jk with a 3.8 wont get better mileage than the H3. they suck the fuel because of the stupid heavy curb weight and no power.

Nothing new gets good or even decent mileage, it's just emissions that the DOMV regulates these days. My 19 year old K1500 gets better mileage than the new "more efficient" crap they're rolling off the line these days. If you want the best of both worlds, MPG and power, you've already got it in a diesel. Unfortunately that's a whole other can of worms with the cost of diesel vs. gas and the emissions bs on the diesels. All I can say is that a paid off truck (hopefully yours is) is way cheaper, even with repairs, than a new truck any day of the week. Even if the mileage is 2x as good...

I completely agree with you about the diesel other than I don't own it and the payment is getting tough. That's why I'm looking. If I owned it I would never consider getting rid of it

It looks like from the add-ons, you've put a lot of money into it. Can you sell the D-max for the amount you have into it (loan + parts)? I think the idea of getting out of car payments is a GREAT idea so keep pursuing....... There is definitley something to say for driving around in a paid-off rig. :waytogo:

When do the new colorados hit the floor? They are rumored to have diesel engine options.

I went and looked at some trucks the other day and the dealer said they would give me what I owe on my diesel. Which is good but I would lose the money I have in upgrades but that's to be expected.

Never heard about he diesel option for the Colorado. Have they said what size? And trans?

Sale your truck outright....much better deal than trading it in to the dealer. Their convenience of a trade in = less money in your pocket.

I'd just stay away from any "new car" idea such as the diesel Colorado (don't know anything about it).

Find a used truck that's cheap but solid. Toyota comes to mind....just to get going and no payments. Then, put aside a "car payment" into your own checking account and after a year, upgrade your vehicle with your "car payment" cash. End result, better car and NO payments!

Again, just my 2 cents....
