Well my ford towers and long travel shocks came today. I cant wait to put them in so I dont have to feel every single crack in the road...

Do the Ford towers and longer shocks make that much difference on the street? How much longer of a shock do you have to run with the Ford towers? And one last question, how difficult is it to install the Ford towers?

I dont' think they make any difference on the street over the stock mounts and a quality shock. Off road is where they help the stock shock can limit both compression and extension, depending on how your suspension is setup.

As to how easy are they to install? Do you have a welder? If so very easy. I have never bolted them on but I imagine it can be done with a drill and a couple of bolts.

What does a welder have to do with anything? The ford towers bolt on.

Yeah, I always thought they just bolted right on. I just figured it couldn't be that easy. Bolting them up and buying longer shocks sounds way too simple ;)

You must realize I don't bolt anything on I put them in a way different location and cut the orginal holes off so that my shock would have substantially more down than up. I have put Ford towers on several chevys but have always changed them enough so they don't bolt on.

I havent done them yet but I plan to match the eye to eye in the front to the rear. I bought shocks for a 4" lift in the rear and plan to run them front and back.

I dont know about ride quality on the street. As said i dont think it makes a difference its all about when you flex. It will make a difference going from shocks with 10% their stock rebound to brand new ones though :D

Oh, so that's what you were referring to when you said "that way I won't feel every crack in the road".

Still wondering if these towers are just simply bolt ons or if there is any mods involved.

Most people just drill some holes in the frame and bolt them on.

Got any pictures of the how you weld them on? Kinda curious what you did

My shocks now are shot and I feel everything.

Of course worn shocks do not make the ride harsher, they actually make it softer. You just loose damping and control, and even keep bouncing multiple times after hitting a bump. Whenever I see people get jarred in a vehicle, they say something about the shocks when in in reality it has more to do with the spring rate.

I agree with that statement, for the most part.

The term shock absorber is a misnomer. It is a common misconception that shock absorbers absorb shock (I wonder why  ) - actually they're primary purpose is to damp out low frequency vibration (bouncing) in the springs. New shock abosrbers will typically ride more harshly than worn out ones, but they will eliminate the double/triple bounce over bumps.
