Hey all just got a 75 blazer today and it has a hurst floor shifter with a badly frayed cable and it dosent shift .the PO managed to drive it 30 miles in 2nd to my house.is changin the cable difficult? I'm not a seasoned mechanic by any means.I think hurst is a biproduct of B & M but can't seem to find a hurst cable anywhere in town, just B & M cables. Will a B & M cable work?its a th350 thanks!

. Just need cable advise because the cable isn't able , lol and if you can't tell I'm new , and lost

pull old cable off
take old cable to a place that makes custom cables
or see if it has a part number on it
or see if B&M has a kit similar to what you have and order just the cable

you'll need to do some leg work and talk to people to source a cable that works
or get one made

Thanks man. I know its probly easy to do hopefully I can just find a match thru b and m. I'm new at this kinda not mechanicly savy YET lol. I wish I cld post a pic of this truck . It looks rubicon ready lol. Just got it today and its goin to make a kool family project. I didn't know they made custom shifter cables ! Thank you.thinkin about joining this site as a paying member...

Hurst is owned by Mr Gasket, not B & M..

here's there site... http://www.hurst-shifters.com/hurst-shifter/default.html

check under service parts or call em... or call summit. bet if ya tell em what shifter you have, they have a cable for it... nobody is going to "make this up for you".. it isn't a hydraulic hose..

Morse was the major manufacturer for most of the cables, hurst, B & M, etc... a B & M should be the same as a hurst, just thicker, thinner.... it's just a threaded rod at the end of the cable... you can actually order these thru mcmaster-carr too.....

Just remember one thing, use wheel chocks or set the parking brake. If you move the lever on the trans and take it out of park the truck might move and roll over you or into something.

Welcome to the site.

If you dont have any luck gettin a cable from the mfr. check out www.push-pull.com. they are out of chico. they made up a custom shifter cable for my hayabusa sandrail and were very knowledgable and great service

I'm not 100% but I thought Flanders in Pasadena also did cables. Don't quote me on that. It's possible, but go through the manufacturers and summit before going custom.

Swapping the cable couldn't be easier. But which cable you install is pretty important. The cables that come with the shifters are weak. Usually they sell a heavy duty modely after your first one fails, and the price difference usually isn't too much.

There are a few things you can do to prolong the life of the cable. First off how tight you bend the cable will effect how long it will last and second "jacket" the housing where the bend occurs at the rear of the trans. If you can get a hold of some metal tubing similar in size to the cable, cut the tubing lengthwise and open the tubing up, slip it over the cable , run the cable, mold the modified tubing to follow the contour of the bend. Then snugly clamp the tubing onto the cable with a few hose clamps, and for the finishing touch you could wrap some heat tape around the ugly monstrosity you are now calling a shifter cable.

I've crapped out just a few(3) cables on my vehicles, Could ya tell?
Ive also used that same method to repair a cable in this custom 37 ford limo some years back , the shifter was so burried in his custom dash/console that i didn't want to touch it. The end result was a win:thumb:

Hope some of my rambling will help.

After searchin I found one at summit . It wasn't that bad to get out suprizingly. The shifter ITSELF is the older pro matic 2 andhard parts feel well worn but is still cool.I'm taking the approach of fixing rather than replacing with this whole deal. So I payed the 25 and might need help w pics lol. I want to post them! Thanks all for the help.for going above and beyond! I HOPE THE WARN HARd PARTS in the actual shifter assembly don't affect the process. I was planing on slightly greasing the shifter parts ,hooking up cable and callin it a day!

Get some pics of your rig up !
and let me know when you want to go wheel. Im just over on 50 / bradshaw

the pro-matic 2 's where awesome shifters.. better than ANY B & M.....

i ran em in many many cars.... the lower shift pattern where you just smash the shifter forward to change gears works killer.. not sure how it'd be in a truck, but i loved em in my hotrods...

Before you can post pics you need 15 posts. This is for spammers, it helps prevent a lot of issues. Keep posting a few more times and you will be set.

Welcome to the site, and the addiction.

sounds like you got it fixed, but for future reference, Morse part numbers actually describe the cable, length, ends, etc. so with that # (not application) go to a boat store, I've found them to be cheaper there as well!
