i have an 83 k5 with the hyraboost brakes and i want to convert to power brakes and i bought another master cylin and power booster can i mount that in and are the mounting bolt holes there for changing over brake systems???????????????????????????:dunno::bow:

Hydroboost brakes are power, they run off the power-steering pump. WAY better then vacuum brakes. No need to change them.

i dont have a diesel any more im running a 305 until i get a 4 bolt 350 and a 700r4 so you still recommend the hydraboost over vacum?????? under those circumstances????

Yes I would run it. Its a far superior system. Almost all new GM trucks leave the factory with hydroboost brakes, whether gas or diesel. Proof enough for me that its the better system to have.

absolutely... gas or diesel, doesn't matter.. they both have ps pumps... i ditched my vac booster for hydro in my tbi gasser...

yep hydro-boost is better , especially if you put a big cam in that 4-bolt 350

how are the hydraboost brake system bled????????? and does that power steering pump take power steering fluid or atf or what ????? im very new to this type of system .... im talking about the power steeing pump, i know how to bleed brakes ....

there a pain but all you really do is turn the wheel back and forth and pump the brakes and it will eventually "self bleed"

To bleed the PS system, put the front axle on jackstands, with the motor off, slowly turn lock to lock until there are no air bubbles in the fluid resivoir. Start the engine and turn the wheels lock to lock, if the fluid gets foamy there is still air in the system, if the pump whines there is still air in the system.

In my new C30, I have hydro boost brakes, and they're really scary. You almost have to mash them to even start slowing down, but if you go too far, they start to lock up. The pedal doesn't depress very smoothly. But I do have a P/S leak somewhere, can this affect my braking performance? Also the brake reservoir has greenish fluid in the front half and like brownish in the back...Thought that was kinda odd...

small leaks wont effect braking performance, but low fluid or big leaks will. but hydroboost CAN mask base brake system problems.
green brake fluid tint is from the coating inside the brake lines contaminating the fluid color. no biggie.
black/sludge looking fluid is from wearing seals, and old fluid.

it sounds like you have a problem. maybe just misadjusted rear shoes. but could be a master bypassing on one axle. either front or rear, but not both. which brakes lock up? front? rear? both?

You've probobly got an issue with a pump or the booster itself. I had a box van that acted the same way. I've driven other hydroboost vehicles that stop on a dime, effortless braking.

Well they don't really lock up, but it's a fine line, it's hard to brake smoothly with it, although it does feel like one of the rear ones is stuck almost always. And one of the front ones makes a rubbing sound when applied. I might just need new brakes all the way around.

my brakes suck the shoe on the passenger rear makes a scraping noise all the time and i really have to get into the brake pedal on my hydro brakes to slow down abd stop i have got some work you guys have me talked into keeping the hydro brakes .. thanks to allof you members on some edumucation on this brake system ...thanks
