i searched about this, and couldnt find much, just different set ups. but i have x-over and high steer. i couldnt turn at all when i was stopped or going less than 2mph,so i put hydro assist on. i used the typical 1.5x1x8 ram and tapped my box with my buddy thats tapped about 5 or more boxes, and minus taking away the death wobble, there are no gains from it. he has the exact same set up and can easily turn lock to lock sitting in place. even if i rev the motor to 3000rpm, it doesnt help. any advice or suggestions? im lost with this one. my only thought is the smaller .75x1x8 ram. and or a high volume steering pump $$$$

sounds like the pump is still not flowing enough pressure to move the ram.have you already bled the system of air after all these changes?

ya,ive been daily driving for about a month or so,its been through its paces. just not not working like it should. im thinking the pump too, maybe ill look into a "cheap" high pressure/volume pump. and or go with the smaller ram.it seems like both would help

If you don't have enough power to turn the wheels while stopped, and it was the same before hydro-assist, then why you you think a smaller ram will help?

Sounds like something is wrong with either your pump or gear box. Even with 39.5's I could still stand outside the door and turn the tires with the engine at an idle before going hydro-assist.

i didnt even see the link u posted for me! im going to give that a try! thanks for the help! and i have a new gear box, i was just thinking a smaller ram might be small enough to get filled and get under pressure to push on the tierod. but im going to try that pump mod as soon as i can!

You might need to tighten or replace the power steering belt. They can slip without making hardly any noise at all. Bad belt= More steering effort.

Totally forgot about that one I was having issues with mine once upon a time, belt replacement and making sure it was tight cured it all.

My issue was the same as yours except mine had worked before

Call the guy at PSC they will help. That's where I got all my stuff. Your have the right size ram any thing over 2" and your box will not have enough flow to run it. They told me me that I would not even know I had big tire on my truck. I had them tap and revalve my box for better flow. Did you add a resevior for enough extra fluid. Sound like you are not getting enough pressure from the pump.

ok,ill check my belt, and ill try the pump mod and see how that works. and i wish i could get stuff from PSC but thats some $$$ i dont have. im trying to build a nice truck with a not so nice budget  but i did add the extra resevior on top so i know its cycling with enough fluid. thanks for all the help guys!

new p/s pump is around 75-80 bucks last i checked. would be a good thing if you cant fix easy to toss at the problem.

Understand that.
They also say you should run a cooler when you do any steering assist, specially if you run any kind of HO pump.

I would also guess you have a bad pump.
But a bigger diameter ram wouldn't hurt either I think...
With high-steer you probably dont have more that half the throw compared to the regular tie rod location.
So to get the same function you'll need a ram with twice the area.
2" instead of 1.5" for eg.
And since the throw is so short, it doesn't get any slower by this.

I can turn the 37x12.50's SSR's with my pinky at idle while parked on pavement after tightening the power steering belts. Something's definitely up with your pump
