hydro assist questions

Mine is twitchy(sp) enough on the road without goin fullhydro.I dont have a whole lot of road feel in my steering.Took some getting use to and my wife still dont like it.

Well, I dont think I am going to bother with questionable street characteristics of full hydro, so Im set on the assist. Now, one last question for everyone. Since Im still on D44/12b and plan on going to 1 tons near the end of this summer, will I absolutely need to go high steer or crossover to run assist? It seems like everyone on hydro has converted their steering, but I dont want to spend the cash on that if I dont have to. I realize I would have to swap rams after the axle swap, but I can get the correct rams a lot cheaper than steering conversions run.

You certainly don't need to ge high steer with hydro assist, but you should have crossover.

If you don't, the mechanical steering can be bottomed out (i.e. its trying to steer a direction but can't because the draglink is so short) but the ram isn't limited by anything. This results in the steering box being ripped off of the frame, trust me, the ram has more than enough force to do this.

thanks for the info guys. I heard they are some orbitals that allow for steering still in case your engine dies with full hydro and they also have decent return to center without using excessive toe in to compensate, but its looking like Ill just go assist with a high flow pump and teh 1.5x8 ram.

call benchworks here in scottsdale

I had him build me a high flow pump, guy knows his sh!T:D

Where is your rig headed? Are you going to wheel it hard with big tires or is this going to be more mild/moderate. If you aren't going to wheel the crap out of it I think Hydro assist isn't necessary. Just do a quality reinforcement and crossover if you are going to wheel it a decent amount.

I have wheeled the sh*t out of my truck for years with 37" tires and have not had hydro assist. I only have the frame repair kit, no triangulation brace and have been fine. Crossover is a better investment then hydro unless you are going to wheel it hard, then get both.
