What are the hydro ram specs everyone is running for there hydro assist?
I am looking at the ones on www.surpluscenter.com. I am trying to do this CHEAP so please do not try and point me to PSC, WTO, RockLogic.........

I know for the Dana 60 its needs to be 8" long stroke but what about the bore and rod diameter? I will still be driving this on the road so it can't be to slow.

What are the differences with say a 1.75" vers 2" bore?
What about rod diameter?

good question. I'm looking for tractor rams at the moment as well. I'll add the question...

what psi rating are your rams?

If your rig will see any street time you want a 1.5" ram with either a 3/4" or 1" rod. Most aftermarket rams use a 3/4" rod and I have seen several bend. Mine is a 1" and has held up just fine.

I am running a 2" ID ram with a 1.25" rod. I bought it from surplus center.

here is the thread on it.

its not fast like the stock steering with the stock tires, but its faster then the current setup with out the ram. I have seen pics of guys running small cylinders with spindly rods that bent. with a 1.25" rod I don't think I will bend it. :D You can always get a 1.5" or 1.75" ram and upgrade later.

Are the smaller rods bending due to resistance or blunt force trauma? I used rock damage and what not but I have to ask. :D

I'm using a 1.5"x8" from surpluscenter. It has the 1" rod, and I find it responsive enough that I feel comfortable powersliding around corners on gravel roads. Hope that helps. :D

I use a 1.75X8 from PSC. I drive it on the street also with no ill effects. I know you are doing it on the cheap but I think the size is relavent.

Thanks everyone. I just went ahead and ordered the 1.5x8x1 from surplus center. I'm still alittle worried about bending the ram but if it happens I will just upgrade to the 2x8x1.25 surplus center ram.

you should have more room to mount that I did with my 2" :waytogo:

Any reason you opted to go with a double action ram? It should be noted that depending on what pitman arm/crossover/highsteer arms you run and how you mount the ram can impact the actual stroke you should run on any particular axle. Boz42 should have a like 5.5" stroke ram but has finessed a 6" ram in there.

I am having an issue with the ram. The fixed mount on the cylinder is rotated wrong. I need it flipped horizontal so the ports point up not at the axle tube or tie rod. Not sure if I could just carefully cut it of and re weld it or not.

Could you mount it backwards from how you are planning to mount it and rotate the ram end horizontal? There is no reason the fixed part of the ram needs to be attached to the axle. You could attach it to the tie rod.

I have a similar ram but mine has fixed 3/4" sleeves at the ends instead of those joints. I had to turn mine too.

I ground the welds out of mine, turned it and rewelded it. Works fine :thumb:

Can you mount it with the valves pointing backwards and use 90 degree ends on your hose ends. Please don't hose me too hard...just a question.
