hydro assist steering

The flow mods are done when you have issues with using the brakes and steering at the same time. If the brakes feel spongy even when you are not steering, and the steering is lacking when not on the brakes, then I would be looking at fixing the issue instead of looking at a modification or band-aid.

I have hydroboost brakes with hydro-assist steering on my K5 with the stock pump, lines, etc... I originally tried the flow modification and went through several pumps until I went back to a stock valve. The brakes get the primary boost power from the p/s pump so brakes always work fine. There are times when steering is not that great but only under very specific conditions. If the engine is at idle and I hit the brakes hard then there is not much steering assist......for example if driving down the road and you come up on a road you need to turn on and have to hit the brakes hard the steering is pretty tight. I also have 40" TSL's, drive flanges on the front, and a welded rear so everything working against me. Any "normal" driving is fine and never an issue on the trail.

thanks 6.2 I just swapped out the ball joimts on all the front suspension, and put new bearings in. when I was doing this I saw that the power steering line going to the hydro boost has a small leak. so I'm going to swap that line out and bleed the brake system this weekend and see if that helps any.

Alright so after struggling with this issue and doing alot of research . I finally would the solution it turns out that the gear box was the issue this whole time. I swapped out powersterring pumps with used /new ones new hoses and even another hydroboost. The only thing left was the gear box swapped it out this morning and bam we now have powersteering.

So, on the issue of a failing gearbox, what are the tell tale signs to identify this as the issue?

I could tell you my man I though that the gear box was fine the p.o never mentioned anything about it when I got the truck. So I was under the assumption that I had to be the newer components that I had installed (hydroboost and powersterring pump)
