Getting ready to install hydro assist on my rig and was wondering if there is any advantage to mounting the cylinder near the driver side knuckle and the shaft toward the center of the tie-rod? I would think that it would be better this way since the shaft would be pretty much centered as far as push/pull is concerned. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

it wont matter where you put it performance wise but I will tell you this. If you have all the force at the middle of the tie rod it will flex some. Even with a big beefy tierod.

I mounted mine toward the end so there is less bending force on the actual tie rod.

Now this is the kind of info i'm looking for. I didn't even stop to think about the force that would be applied in the middle making the tie rod want to bow. I was thinking more on the lines of equal pressure when turning left or right.

I mounted mine as you describe and made the mounts so that i have a virtually straight push/pull to avoid bending the tie rod. I've got some pics on my work pc, I'll try to remember to post. If I forget and you'd like to see them, PM me tomorrow.

Thanks for the pic, what ram is that and how large is the shaft? Where did you get it and the cost?

It's an 1-1/2" ram froma local company that makes rams!
I can't remember the price off hand but being as I'm in England it wouldn't be much good to you as the shipping would be more than the ram!
It's got heims each end.
I still need to mod my pump more as it's a bit slow for my liking.
